I come in peace.
I’m writing this from the heart, as a loyal and hardcore FEU fan.
So in case you didn’t know, we’re now on a 2-game losing streak, basically, it’s a slump. Starting the 2nd round with 2 losses feels like we are heading to (maybe) a not-so-good season. The 2 week break destroyed our momentum and I hate seeing the boys struggle again, in other words; I hate seeing the team lose again. #MedyoSad
Our first round campaign was perfect. “Walang bahid” The boys played quality ball. Romeo dominated, Garcia backed him up. Tolomia delivered. Hargrove, Sentcheu, Pogoy, Belo, Mendoza, Cruz and the rest of the bench contributed well. Ball movement was sharp. The boys were confident with their shots and most of all, the team looked like they could take on anybody. They feared none. They fought every game of the first round like they were rabid animals who were unleashed to kill. The team refused to lose. Ang sarap panoorin.
But here we are, all gloomy after 2 losses to start the second round. Other schools are enjoying what they are seeing. They’re happy because finally, our record is stained. The Bulldogs celebrated. Now the Archers are feasting. It’s hard to be on the top. Everyone wants to pound you. Nasa taas ka e. Siyempre lahat gusto nasa taas. And now other teams are closing in.
So what do we (The team, the fans and whole Tam community) need to do?
The team is actually doing well… no wait, they’re doing great. The chance of bagging our 20th title this year is big. Like big as in BIG. The team showed how dangerous they can be. But why are we losing?
Yes, the boys are struggling, maybe they’re losing their rhythm, their touch, overconfidence? Back to the old FEU? Selfish plays? Who do we blame? Romeo? The coach? The whole team? The fans? Here’s the thing, you can never play perfect basketball because there’s no such thing. What’s happening right now is actually normal. You win some, you lose some. That’s how life goes. But what’s important is how you deal with each defeat. Each battle lost should be a learning lesson. Whatever you did on a game that made your team lose, should not be done again. (or at least try not to do it again). Basketball is a game where your smallest action(s) counts. Whatever you do in the court counts. We have the talent. We need the attitude.
1) REFUSE TO LOSE.
Like what I said, the team refused to lose. Now we’re on the 2nd round, we need more of that. That “Hindi ako papataob sayo” attitude. Killer instinct. Mamba mentality. I don’t know how you call it, but it’s that mentality of not giving up, not hiding, not folding and not surrendering. Stop at nothing kumbaga. Nakaprint pa nga sa mga t-shirt yun diba? Yung “Never Give Up” —- yun. Yun yung mas kelangan natin ngayon, hindi lang para sa player, kung fan ka, show them that you care, that you want them to win.
2) Go the EXTRA mile.
Whatever you did well before, do better now. Push yourself to the limit. Mas galingan mo pa. Run EXTRA fast. Jump EXTRA high, Cheer EXTRA loud, bringing an EXTRA friend to cheer with you. EXTRA here, EXTRA there, EXTRA everywhere. You’ll never know, that EXTRA thing might result in a sweet victory. Exert the EXTRA effort.
3) FULL SUPPORT. FAITH. UNITY.
Eto yun eh. Our school is actually privileged to be part of the UAAP (Probably the best collegiate league if I’m not mistaken (: ). Let’s take advantage of that. Nowadays, only a handful of students watch the game. Pinipili kung anung game yung papanuorin. That’s not how it should be because in the UAAP, EVERY GAME COUNTS. As a fan, as an enrolled student of the school, as an alumni, and as part of the Green and Gold community, it’s our duty to contribute whatever positive thing we can do for our school. Isipin mo, if you give the school a championship… WHOOAA. What a contribution diba? Kahit di ka player, you can give that to the school. How? By simply being there. By supporting the team with all your heart. By cheering for them, (and when I say cheer, kahit lamang ang kalaban, hindi ka dapat tumitigil sa pag-sigaw ng “GO FIGHT TAMARAWS!”) and by showing them that you care and you too, want that championship. Ipakita mo sa kanila na gusto mo din mag-champion ang Green and Gold. At pag nag champion tayo, masasabi mong “I was part of it”. The team needs you. They need to see you there. Nakaka-lakas ng loob sa team pag nakikita nilang maraming sumusuporta sa kanila at marami silang kasama. And you should not only be there during victories. Kung ang syota mo may problema diba mas lalo kang nagpapakita ng supporta? That’s how it should be with the team too. When they’re losing, the more we should be there. Pag natatalo sila, mas kelangan nila tayo. Basketball never stops, and so does cheering and supporting. TIWALA. (And PLEASE. If the team is losing, DO NOT LEAVE THE VENUE EARLY. Sing the school hymn. Show them that as fans, we can accept defeat gloriously.) #PUSO
Haters will always be there. Opponents will also be there to say something bad about you. But should we retaliate? Should we fight back? Nah. Treat your enemies with respect. Puwede mo din silang asarin pero wag below-the-belt. Kahit inis ka na, wag kang makipagsabayan sa batuhan ng putik dahil kahit matamaan mo ang kalaban, nadumihan ka pa rin. Don’t fight fire with fire. Nowadays, usong uso ang bashing sa social networking sites and we should try our best to avoid conflict. Destroying others can lead to your own destruction. So next time na may marinig kang KSP na may bad things sa sinabi satin, act classy and just say… God bless you. Chill lang. Class can take you places. Again I tell you, show them that we can accept defeat gloriously. Wag uminom ng Ampalaya plus.
Yun lang naman. I might add some more things in the future. We actually have the best chance of grabbing the title this year and let’s not waste the opportunity. Also, this is the last season we’ll be seeing Garcia and Romeo play together while wearing the Green and Gold, rare to find two great PGs play together (Actually tatlo sila pero di pa graduating si Mike e). Let’s just do our part and summon the horde. Watch the game with your friends and family to make your UAAP games more memorable. Every game should be a festive event. Matalo, Manalo, andun dapat tayo. Suwerte pa nga tayo kasi mas frequent yung PANALO kesa talo e.
This is a chance. A VERY BIG CHANCE, so do your part. Every Tam counts.
Now let’s go get that 20th title.
